Statement on Reproductive Justice & Abortion Access
At Tandem Columbus, we support and embrace Reproductive Justice as a form of liberation for all bodies and all genders—no matter a person’s age, race, or financial resources. The Reproductive Justice movement focuses on bodily autonomy, and the belief that a person should have full control over their body and the medical decisions made about their body. As counselors, sex therapists and social workers, we believe it is our ethical responsibility to advocate for bodily autonomy, individual choice, and access to all forms of healthcare. We believe in securing the individual agency to decide if, when, and how to become pregnant. We endeavor to create a supportive space to help clients determine answers to those questions for themselves.
Tandem acknowledges the longstanding systemic practices that disproportionately limits medical care—including comprehensive reproductive care and abortion—for Black, brown, and Indigenous communities, as well as queer, trans and gender expansive folks. The Reproductive Justice movement acknowledges that all oppression is interconnected, and that racism and transphobia are directly related to abortion access.
Tandem actively rejects any legislation or executive actions that would limit easy access to abortion, birth control or other essential healthcare. We are committed to helping clients and community members obtain abortion care. This includes financial contribution to organizations with a similar mission, financial contribution to organizations specifically funding abortion care, and by encouraging and financially supporting activism in our communities.
